I was thrilled to hear that the master schedule this year included weekly club time. It meant that I could move ahead with my plan to start the “Join the Club” implementation with the 4-H after school program while also getting a head start on the schoolwide implementation by getting the staff involved in an indirect way. It has taken on a life of its own and can be a logistical nightmare, but it has definitely moved us toward the goal of introducing the students and staff to a more flexible learning environment that provides choice, ownership, and voice.

Lessons Learned |
I have learned (or been reminded) that I can’t please everyone. There are always going to be those that will spend more time and energy maintaining the status quo than they would have spent learning something new. I need to rely on my growth mindset when faced with these obstacles and keep my goal in mind, which is increasing authentic learning experiences for the students on my campus.
